Specialty Arabicas from regenerative agricultural systems

In Uganda, we source specialty Arabicas grown in climate-resilient farming systems from the West Nile region. This area is one of the most under-invested regions in the country, and its coffee-growing communities are projected to be among those most affected by climate change. These challenges put farmers’ livelihoods at serious risk and underscore the urgent need to invest in climate-change adaptation today.
That is why HyCoffee collaborates with collaborates with Zombo Coffee Partners who work closely with farming communities across the region, supporting them in moving towards regenerative production systems and financing 15 micro-stations across the region.
Regenerative agriculture for a climate-resilient future
Farmers grow their coffee in regenerative farming systems that improve soil health, increase water retention, and provide shade. These practices help coffee plants withstand heat, drought, and unpredictable weather, while reducing farmers’ dependence on expensive inputs, such as synthetic fertilisers. In one of Uganda’s hottest regions, regenerative agriculture is a critical long-term solution.
Investing where it matters most

The micro-station system ensures value addition stays with the farmers, as micro-stations are operated by an elected committee. The individual farmers sell their coffee to these independent primary processing stations at ~60% above the Living Income reference price for Ugandan Arabica cherries. In addition, profits are shared with farmers, and micro-stations create stable, paid employment in rural villages where work opportunities are scarce.
